Friday, these dudes rocked a set at Oaklandish then hit the studio to record this song and shot the video the same night. As soon as I heard Jay, Ye and Big Sean’s “Clique,” I knew folks were going to hop on the track. The beat is undeniable. But the decision for Adrian Per, T-Ran, RGLND and Duckwrth to get a song and video out with this type of turn around isn’t just about recognizing a catchy track, it’s about understanding timing.
See, DC premiered , on 106 KMEL last weekend. The song has been out for a minute and the video dropped back in January. So that’s what, almost a year before the song made it to radio? During which these guys kept pushing, kept making music. So yes, the song premiered on KMEL, then T-Ran’s set at Hiero Day (9/3) ended up being all crew love. He performed his singles, but also had Adrian and RGLND on for “Ashley,” and then RGLND and Duckwrth performed “Hoverboard,” off of the DUCKTAPE album. Then the Ashley crew performed at the Giants game. Followed up by a performance at during the largest Art Murmur yet. At this point, the guys have been introduced to hundreds of people who didn’t know them two weeks ago. They are also giving all of their fans the opportunity to boast,”I told you about those dudes. I don’t know why you were sleeping.”
When you have a flow going like this, you’d be plum fucking foolish not to take advantage. Good thing these dudes are smart. And hungry. And talented. We present to you…. The Clique.
