Imagine you’re driving down East 14th, and as the blocks pass, so do the years. Well that’s exactly the type of listening experience DJ Dion Decibels has created with Oaklandish’s 2012 mixtape. Please beware however that this musical journey is non-linear; DJ scratches evidently create wrinkles in time. The end product is a dope cross-genre homage to Oakland’s distinguished musical history. There’s no way to tell the story of Oakland music on one mixtape, but this ride through time is a great intro to the uninitiated and a superb, “eat shit, hater” to those who doubt The Town’s impact on the game. Cheers!
