Video: Martin Luther Covers The Beatles

By Coolhand Luke  |  November 12th, 2009  |  Published in Uncategorized

When I first watched the 2007 Beatles musical Across the Universe, I didn’t realize that the Jimi Hendrix-inspired character, Jojo, was played by the Bay Area’s own Martin Luther. Luther turned a lot of heads with his big screen debut, but it is his music that most know him for. He’s an accomplished solo artist, but is also a member of the Bay Area super group Town Bizness with Too $hort, Kev Choice, Brian Collier and Silk-E.

The talent he showcased in Across The Universe was unexpected, and given that I am going through an emotional time in my life right now, I appreciate the soulful vulnerability he brought to the part. His voice and guitar conspired with some amazing film making to make his cover of “My Guitar Gently Weeps” as beautiful and heartfelt as it is.

Be on the look out for his forthcoming album Love Is The Hero, coming soon
