When you cruise through Oakland, you see some vintage automotive gems gleaming on chrome rims or gold spokes. Candy-painted Stangs, Cougs, Chevelles and El Caminos shine like turf prisms; hood rich testaments to pride amidst struggle.
You also see dreams deferred tucked off in the cut behind locked gates, on deserted corners, or under faded covers waiting to be reclaimed and renewed–proletariat chariots of past glory. While searching for the former, Oakland photogrpher Scott La Rockwell often encounters the latter on his Sunday rides through East Oakland.
Word is that he’s cooking up an Oakland car photo project of some sort, but we’re still not sure what that will entail. In the meantime we’re enjoying the regal and rusty rides Rockwell encounters on the boulevards of The Town.
