Event: Streets Is Talking Radio’s 5 Year Anniversary!

streetsStreets Is Talking Radio has been a pillar of the Bay Area hip-hop community for 5 long years (Damn time flies!), and this Thursday, the Bay will be celebrating this milestone at The New Parish! Corporate radio’s relationship with local hip-hop has been hot and cold over the years, but Leon “Dnastee” Sykes and DJ Aebl Dee have helped bridge that gap and given local emcees, singers, and producers a consistent platform every week for half a decade.

Even if you’ve never heard the radio show, you’ve no doubt seen DNas working hard putting on for the Bay via his monthly Fresh Steps showcase at Luka’s Lounge and his role as host of the now defunct Monday Soul. Thursday’s event is bringing the radio show to life in Monday Soul’s former venue using a showcase dynamic reminiscent of Fresh Steps. I say all that to say that it will feel like home and have DNas’s personality written all over it.

We’ve been huge fans of Streets Is Talking Radio from jump. Back when online Bay Area music outlets were scarce (we see you thebayisback.com), 38thnotes and SITR helped fill a void, and our shared missions forged a kinship between our respective brands. In fact, after the departure of longtime SITR cohost Beejus, our very own Niema Jordan and Rayana Godfrey have played foil to DNas’s gregarious personality on Tuesday afternoons.

If you’ve never enjoyed the Streets Is Talking experience peep the podcasts. If you’ve been in the know, come out and celebrate with the fam on Thursday night. It’s not a happy hour meet and greet, it’s a live show. The Getback Band will be playing live fronted by crew leaders Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs. And since it’s a family function, the band will be joined on stage by the likes of Erk Tha Jerk, 1-O.A.K., Kool John, Moe Green, Beejus, and KnowItAll of League 510. AND it’s Jay Ant’s birthday party! If there is ever a lull between these dynamic attractions, DJ D-Sharp will be spinning, so fear not! If you haven’t figured it out yet, you have hella reasons to be in attendance.

This is a party, but it’s also a thank you to the folks who have made this show possible for 5 great years. We tip our hats to DNastee, Aebl Dee, Beejus, and all the folks at Youth Radio and beyond who have made the alldayplay.fm channel and Streets Is Talking Radio so strong for this long.  We’ll see you there!
