Is it possible for a Los Angeles native to move to San Francisco and become a big name in the underground hip-hop community? Well if you ask Duckwrth, it is. The 24-year-old rapper from South Central LA has relocated to the Bay Area, and since then, he’s been making inroads and gaining notoriety. He’s performed at Yoshi’s in San Francisco and has become a reoccurring artist in the Bay Area-based Team Backpack cypher series.
The multi-genre artist has most recently piqued people’s interest with his new song “The Ending” and the accompanying visuals. The song has a muted subterranean sound and Duckwrth’s hazy vocals sound introspective and ominous. The video has an appropriately gritty noir feel that would be at home in a small, local film festival. There are no costly effects, random vixens, or bottle service scenes; this joint hangs it’s hat on originality, drama, darkness, and plot twists.
Duckwrth’s new video for “The Ending,” directed by Queen’s D.Light, can be seen below. The song will appear on Duckwrth’s first solo project DUCKTAPE, dropping June 8th. Stay tuned.
